Riparian and Other Visions: The Past, Present, and Future of the Los Angeles River (Part 1: Webinar)
Thursday, March 03, 2022, 7:00 PM - 8:15 PM PDT
Category: CASE Paid Events

Join USC history professor Bill Deverell for a seminar-style discussion on the long history of the Los Angeles River and its possible rebirth as a site of environmental redemption. Once fundamental and critical to the lifeways and folkways of people in the Los Angeles Basin, the tiny L.A. River became the case study of the region’s “control of nature” through the entirety of the 20th century. That effort tended to remove the river from both sight and mind. But now, as the 21st century deepens, the river has once again entered conversations about environmental sustainability in the giant metropolis, about conservation of water, and about the price and prices of growth and development in ecosystems now better understood as fragile and in need of repair and maintenance.

Cost (non-refundable): $10 for members, $20 for nonmembers
